FAQ: My HDTV has a message "Not Supported Mode" or is black or blank
Question: I just recieved my adapter. plugged it into my tv (samsung, 1080i lcd tv) via hdmi, then plugged the toslink, usb and mini display port into my 2009 mini. a red light came on on the device, but my tv says "not supported mode" I have had my mini connected via a mini-dvi to hdmi adapter till now with no problems. any ideas what's wrong?
Answer: When the adapter first boot it will auto ouput to 1080p 1920x1080 resolution. Since your HDTV can only go to 1080i that is why you are seeing the message on your HDTV. Reset the "MDP Adapter" resolution on the Mac OS X to the max resolution of your HDTV which will fix the problem and also set it for future connections.
Another setting you may want to check is the refresh rate and PAL/NTSC. Make sure your HDTV supports the refresh rate that MAC OS X is outputting.
I'm having a similar issue, although on my adapter, the LED lights up briefly when plugged in, then goes dark.
I've tried on two Televisions (Panasonic and Sharp), both of which should understand the current setting at 1080i. I have tried setting the MDP adapter settings to 1080i, 720p, etc. all on NTSC)I get no signal sent to the TV, neither sound, nor video.

I just received your new "Kanex Mini Display Port Adapter To HDMI 1080p Video w/ USB Audio" and, as described above, it is not working with my recently purchased Mac Mini which has the Mini Display port. I have tried it with both of my Sony digital televisions (which are 720p) and it will not pass the video signal to the TV no matter what Display setting I use in my Mini's System Preferences -> Display panel.
Though I notice the Mini's Display preferences window now shows settings for 480i, 720p, and 1080i which were not options prior to first connecting your adapter, setting the Mini display at 720p is not working. The preferences do not offer a 1280x720 resolution option which is the 720p standard resolution.
The TV panel says it is an HD LCD with a resolution of 1366X768. The highest Display preferences option the Mini prefs offers is 1360x768 which works fine with my existing Standard DVI to HDMI adapter cable. But this setting does not work with your new adapter.
I am unsure whay you mean by the "MDP adapter resolution" in Mac OSX. I do not see this as a "configurable" item any place in the System Preferences->Display window. HELP!
